The I love Jaisalmer initiative aims to preserve local arts and crafts by helping to better integrate them into the modern marketplace. By fostering collaboration between local artisans and urban designers, an interesting mix of product lines is being created to provide regular employment for rural women who reside in the villages surrounding Jaisalmer. Together, they are currently designing and decorating cushions, fabrics and a stonework collection. The initiative currently works with a hundred and twenty women, producing innovative home wear that is sold in India and the Middle East. The products are vibrant and intricate, embodying the colours, textures and traditional techniques that women in this area have employed for centuries. Given the success of this initiative, we will be facilitating additional collaborations in the future.
