We travelled across the remote villages of Jaisalmer to find people who had overcome life-threatening accidents which, in turn, have left scars that wreak havoc on their self-confidence and dignity. Their culturally rich world is severely disconnected from the modern world of advanced healthcare, so we used our own resources to bring these two worlds together. Four patients with burn marks and a cleft lip were selected for surgery and were taken on a fully sponsored trip to New Delhi where prestigious doctors from the UK treated them. This is a small step towards a real solution, but it was a very special project for us as it proved to be a life-changing experience for them as well as their family members.
